Trace Affex appoints Chuck Huie as Vice President of Engineering

San Jose, CA - March 28, 2001 - Trace Affex, a leading provider of CD-R duplication and printing system solutions, announced today the appointment of Chuck Huie as vice president of engineering. Huie has over 14 years of experience in the storage industry with leading technology companies including Maxoptix, Plasmon Data Systems, NCR and others. He obtained his MSEE in Communications at Santa Clara University, his BSEE in Computer and Circuits from the University of California, Davis, and is licensed and certified through the State of California as a Professional Engineer. Huie has lectured on product design and development at the University of Santa Clara and is a published author in various trade journals. "Chuck worked with me for a number of years in other storage companies, and I am proud to have him join my team. We really have a synergistic effect on each other," stated Dave Kalstrom, president and CEO of Trace Affex. "Chuck will head an excellent team of engineers who will be instrumental in helping us achieve our planned growth."

Trace Affex to manufacture, support and market Cygnet Storage Solutions products

San Jose, CA - March 26, 2001 - Trace Affex, Inc., a leading provider of CD-R duplication and printing system solutions, has signed an agreement to acquire certain assets of Milpitas-based Cygnet Storage Solutions, Inc., a prominent CD/DVD storage system manufacturer. Under the agreement, Trace Affex will manufacture, support and market certain Cygnet-branded products. The acquisition includes intellectual property (IP), manufacturing processes, assumption of customer contractual relationships (to provide manufacturing, service and support), certain materials and goodwill. As part of the agreement, the Toronto-based Quorum Group of companies, a major Cygnet investor, will make a significant investment in Trace Affex.

Ten key Cygnet manufacturing and support people have been offered positions at Trace Affex San Jose headquarters, where Trace Affex recently began manufacturing the Cygnet product line. Customer support will be handled from San Jose and from support facilities in Pennsylvania and Belgium. Dave Kalstrom, president and CEO of Trace Affex, said, "Combining operations will result in significant efficiencies because both the Cygnet and Trace product lines are based on electro-mechanical robotic devices that handle 120mm CD/DVD discs. In addition, the software required to control the devices is similar."

"Although Trace and Cygnet products have much in common, they have distinct market applications," added Kalstrom. "The applications for Cygnet's products are in data storage, while the applications for Trace Affex' products are in CD-R/DVD-R duplication and printing." The Cygnet product line consists of small-, medium- and high-capacity DVD/CD systems for archival storage, data distribution, digital asset management and web-based applications. These products provide resellers and system integrators with a single source for off-line, near-line and on-line network storage applications -- and offer a broad range of capacity and configuration options.

"Cygnet sold its products direct and through resellers , " Kalstrom continued. " We plan to work with Cygnet's resellers and will be offering them the opportunity to sell Trace Affex CD-R/DVD-R duplication and printing systems, as well. We have also offered Trace Affex resellers the opportunity to take on the Cygnet products."

Although CD-ROM type business cards have been available for more than a year, CD-R recordable cards are relative new, having become available in quantities only this year. We are seeing a booming demand from customers interested in duplicating and printing small volumes of CD-R Business Cards in house. The most popular applications have been simply replacing traditional, but boring, business cards with the new CD-R Business Card that has a multimedia promotion ready to plug and play in a PC or which automatically links to a companies web site. CD-ROM business cards have been used for large promotional programs because they are unique and catch the audience's eye. While the replication process is economical for large volumes it is not feasible for small run sizes or frequently changing programs. The CD-R business card lends itself perfectly to small volume runs, custom promotions or one-off applications. The convenient size, large storage capacity and CD-ROM compatibility make it an ideal distribution medium. The Trace Digital and AFFEX branded duplicators, printers, accessories and printable media products provide users with a choice of to suit any application in house, economically."
